We are pleased to announce that the 3rd International Conference on Sign Linguistics and Deaf Education in Asia will be hosted by the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 30 Jan to 2 Feb 2013. Same as the preceding conferences, the 2013 conference aims at promoting research and sharing of empirical findings related to Sign Linguistics and Deaf Education in Asia. This year we are honored to have Prof. Christian Rathmann (University of Hamburg), Prof. Gaurav Mathur (Gallaudet University) and Prof. Harry Knoors (Royal Dutch Kentalis/Radboud University Nijmegen) to be the keynote speakers for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Education respectively.
The 2013 conference invites papers addressing research on Sign Linguistics, Sign Language Acquisition, Literacy development of Deaf children, Sign Bilingualism and adult Deaf training.
The official languages of the conference will be Cantonese, English and Hong Kong Sign Language (HKSL). Interpretation between the official languages will be provided. Authors who want interpretation to and from other signed or spoken languages will need to bring their interpreters. In line with the spirit of The Nippon Foundation and the Centre, that is to facilitate and encourage Deaf people’s participation in sign language research and deaf education, the conference provides registration fee waivers to all Deaf participants.
