Diploma Programme in Sign Language Studies for the Deaf (QF Level: 3; QR Registration No.: 18/000051/L3)

Programme objectives:

The programme is part of a larger sign linguistics research and education project entitled “The Asia Pacific Sign Linguistics Research and Training Program” funded by the Nippon Foundation. The programme provides training in sign language and linguistics to Asian deaf people and raises their linguistic awareness on sign languages. The long term goal is to equip them for further education opportunities.

Programme learning outcomes:

Upon completion of this programme, students are expected to:                           

  • have basic skills to analyze sign languages linguistically; and
  • appreciate the sociolinguistics of sign language, deaf community and deaf culture.

Entry requirement:

  • Be at least 17 years of age.
  • Have completed Form 5 or obtained equivalent qualifications or attained HKDSE Level 2 in Chinese and English.
