Workshop on “Sign Language and Inclusion"

Date: 22/03/2021

To let more people know the language and culture of the Deaf community, the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies held two workshops during the “Diversity and Inclusion Week” to promote Deaf-hearing inclusion learning. In the workshop, the participants will learn some commonly used Hong Kong Sign Language and understand better the learning needs of Deaf people. The four Deaf and hearing tertiary students graduated from the Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment in Deaf Education Programme established by the Centre use Hong Kong Sign Language and Cantonese to bring participants to the bilingual world, experiencing the significance of sign language in education. They also share how deaf and hearing students can integrate with each other in a regular learning environment.

Sign language teaching topics:

  • "Human" and "Animals" : How do we express their actions in sign language?
  • "Holding a Teacup" or "Carrying a Handbag"? Let's appreciate the robustness of signed expressions
