Participating in Conferences and Seminars

On November 08-09, 2014, at the invitation of Prof. Yang Xiaolu from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Tsinghua University, the centre director attended the 6th International Conference on Formal Linguistics in Conjunction with International Conference on Language Acquisition, Language Disorder and Language Assessment (shorted as ICFL-2014) as a member of advisory committee. 

A large number of experts and experienced researchers from linguistics, speech and language therapy and language assessment participated in this international conference. The splendid keynote talks and excellent presentations informed participants of the latest development in the relevant fields and provided a precious chance for exchanging experience and ideas.

Miss He Jia, Miss Li Qun, Miss Li Jia, Miss Cheng Qi and Miss Hu Yunyi who are/were staff and students in Linguistics department of CUHK also gave oral presentations about their own thesis and projects in centre during meeting. The main topics of their presentations included oral, written and sign language development of deaf children as well as development of spoken and sign language assessment tools. This series of presentations stimulated the interests of linguistic researchers and speech therapists in sign language and the deaf. During the Q & A sessions, there were heated discussions about deaf children’s language acquisition. Many insightful questions about sign linguistics were also asked. The centre staff cherished this chance of sharing our experience in deaf researches and learning from other linguists and language therapists.
