Programme objectives:

  • To equip students with knowledge of bilingualism/biculturalism in deaf education;
  • To introduce the basic knowledge of audiology;
  • To provide skills in teaching deaf students; and
  • To foster the concepts of deaf community.

Programme learning outcomes:

Upon completion of this programme, students are expected to:

  • teach deaf students based on the philosophy of bilingualism/biculturalism in deaf education;
  • understand concepts in deaf history, deaf education history and deaf community from the perspective of deaf ideology;
  • appreciate the linguistic nature of sign language;
  • examine the similarities and differences between sign and spoken languages; and
  • understand the language, cognitive, social and psychological development of deaf children.

Entry requirement:

Have completed Form 5 education level (under HKCEE) or Secondary 6 education level (under HKDSE) or obtained equivalent qualifications.
Equivalent qualification: for example, completed grade 11 on the UK National Curriculum.

Remarks: preferably have some teaching experience.
