Diploma Programme in Basic Sign Language Lexicography (QF Level: 3; QR Registration No.: 18/000050/L3)

Programme objectives:

The programme covers the topics of how signs can be collected from the deaf population (Introduction to Sign Language Research), how signs should be analyzed linguistically into different sub-components (Formational Structure of Sign Languages) and what knowledge and techniques are required in compiling, writing and editing sign language dictionaries (Sign Language Lexicography). Training on elementary Hong Kong Sign Language (Hong Kong Sign Language I) and English grammar (Basic English) will also be offered as a foundation for further training.

Entry requirement:

  • have completed Form 5 or attained HKDSE Level 2 in Chinese and English or obtained equivalent qualifications (e.g. grade 11 in the US Education system); or
  • graduates of Project Yi Jin/ Yin Jin Diploma or equivalent; or
  • age of 21 or above.

Applicants are required to attend an interview. Admissions will be subject to the decision of the selection committee.
