Sign language and Deaf culture day 2008

Date: 01/06/2008

The Centre was invited by the Lutheran School for the Deaf (LSD) to participate in the school’s “Sign Language and Deaf Culture Day 2008″ on 1 June 2008. The purpose of this event was to increase the general public’s awareness of Deaf culture, as well as their understanding of Hong Kong Sign Language, in order to improve communication between Deaf and hearing people. The Centre was invited to do a sign language performance with handshapes “A to Z” and “1 to 10″, as well as to have a fun fair and a poster presentation about the sign linguistics research being done at the Centre. The afternoon event featured Deaf performances, game booths, exhibitions, a Judo demonstration, canoe models, angling materials, face painting, etc. Approximately three hundred participants attended this event.
