Visit to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment in Deaf Education Programme (primary school) (Hong Kong)

Date: 01/02/2010 - 03/02/2010

Mr Douglas So, executive director of charities, legal and corporate secretariat of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Professor Marc Marschark, professor and director of the department of research at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Dr Catherine Lam, child assessment service, Hong Kong Department of Health, visited the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment in Deaf Education Programme at Kowloon Bay St. John the Baptist Catholic Primary School on 2 February 2010.
After the visit, there were meetings with Professor Marschark to discuss the research development and the implementation of experimental programmes. He gave valuable recommendations on how to build an evidence-based Deaf education programme. Professor Marschark commented that the “HKJC program offers new opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing children as well as for society”, and hopes that “these children have the opportunity to continue their bilingual education in a co-enrolment setting as they move through higher grades”.
