Deaf Adult Training

Deaf adults play a very important role in deaf education. They can become deaf teacher, sign language researcher and sign language teacher. Other than co-teaching in class with hearing teacher, they also serve as a role model for deaf students. The Centre has provided training in areas such as Deaf Education, Linguistics, Sign Linguistics, Research and sign language teaching. There were also a series of certificate programmes in English and Chinese literacy to enhance their language ability.

Teacher and Professional Training

For the sustainable development of deaf education in Hong Kong, the SLCO Programme has been providing training to pre-service and in-service teachers and relevant professionals. Since 2011, the Department of Special Education and Counselling of The Hong Kong Institute of Education has sent over 300 pre-service and in-service teachers to visit the Programme's partner schools to learn the educational needs of deaf students. Students of tertiary education institutions such as The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Institute of Education have also received training from the Programme via seminars and talks. The Programme has also provided training, support and consultation to professionals such as speech therapists, doctors, audiologists and psychologists.
