Varieties of Hong Kong Sign Language

General summary:

This project is a series of collaborative studies led by Professors James Woodward and Gladys Tang which investigate sign language varieties in Hong Kong.

 
Aims:

  • To catalogue the different varieties of Hong Kong Sign Language
  • To analyse Hong Kong Sign Language based on sign linguistics principles

 
Activities:

Weekly meetings with deaf adults were conducted to collect HKSL data

 
Significance:

This project led to the compilation of the first trilingual dictionary of Hong Kong Sign Language.
