Welcome to the 2021 International Talk Series on
Co-enrolment Education with Sign Language Support!

The Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies is pleased to announce the 2021 International Talk Series to celebrate its 15th anniversary of establishing an innovative, inclusive education model for deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) and hearing children in Hong Kong SAR- Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment Education Programme (The SLCO Programme).

August 2006 saw the launch of the SLCO Programme at a local kindergarten. Since then, it has expanded into a 'through train education system' for DHH and hearing children locally from preschool to senior secondary levels, plus other auxiliary and post-secondary programmes. The programme's impact extends beyond Hong Kong SAR to Quzhou and Macau SAR at home, as well as abroad to Singapore.

Globally, co-enrolment education with sign language support is considered a promising inclusive education model for DHH children, in resonance with the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) (2006).

The Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies is honoured by the speakers from Australia, Austria, Germany, China (Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Quzhou), the Netherlands and the United States of America. They will share the educational philosophy and practices of co-enrolment education in their countries and discuss its positive impacts on the development of DHH and hearing children and challenges.

The talk series will go online on 11, 14 & 16 December 2021. It will be a fruitful venture for us all.
