Advisory Board

We are proud to have Prof. Gaurav Mathur of Gallaudet University and Prof. Adam Schembri of La Trobe University contributing their expertise to us as the advisory board for the APSL program.

 

Professor Gaurav Mathur

Professor Guarav Mathur is an assistant professor in linguistics at Gallaudet University. Prof. Mathur has been involved in linguistics since 1992--majoring in it as an undergraduate at Princeton University and carrying out his Ph.D. studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests focus on the relationship between language modality and language structure. He is also interested in the development of metalinguistic skills in a signed language and how it pertains to the development of reading skills in a written language.

 

Professor Adam Schembri

Professor Adam Schembri is currently an associate professor and the director of the National Institute of Deaf Studies and Sign Language at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. His research interests focus on the linguistics of signed languages, in particular, Australian Sign Language (Auslan) and British Sign Language (BSL). Specific topics he has worked on include: classifier constructions, corpus-based approaches to sign language research, gesture and signed languages, grammaticalisation, language assessment, lexical norming studies, lexicography, sociolinguistic variation and change, and typological issues.
